THE SMOOTH JAZZ RIDE REVIEW:
Oli Silk does some nifty and appealing things with his new slick jazzy offering, All We Need, which shows off an A effort on some great new tracks. Very pronounced and talkative bass lines, smooth and gliding keys work, and crisp vocals all grab a piece of the action here and deserve a huge chunk of the credit for the life of this album.
The opening and title track does a wonderful job of setting the album’s tone and mood, with its light, airy, and rhythmic flair. It’s followed by a bass & trumpet -heavy cover of The Brothers Johnson’s catchy “Tokyo.” The trumpet lines are tight, and why not? They’re offered by the rising trumpeter Cindy Bradley who does a marvelous job of placing this track in the standout category. Bassist Dwayne “Smitty” Smith, not to be outdone, does his own thick, low-register thing which just adds sparkle to the whole piece. That’s followed by the lilting and teasing vocals of Shannon “Sangin’ Diva” Pearson (gotta love these nicknames!) on “Didn’t Know About Love.” Lots of that smooth Oli funk. Frenchman Marc Antoine brings his Latin guitar flair to bear on “Latin Haze,” a mid-tempo charmer which again features that funky Smitty Smith bass along with the sultry vocals of Rebeca Vega Felipe to accentuate those dancing Oli Silk ivories. The cleverly titled “Get Out Claws” is a syrupy, soulful track that begs one to simply chill and get to know that special someone just a little bit better. Already know him or her well enough? Then, perhaps you just want to get up and boogie down to the dance-it-up track that follows, “Bring Back Those Days.” It’s all good here with All We Need, and Oli Silk knows exactly what’s needed to keep the party going. “All We Need” – Oli Silk, this is by far one of my favorite CD’s. Everytime I want/need to hear some GOOD smooth jazz, this always ends up being listened to on disc or on the iPod. Awesome musicianship, great vocals and just good ole’ music. My favoriet tracks are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, oh, was that all of them?! ‘All YOU Need’, to do is buy this disc, pop it in, download it, sit back and enjoy, then enjoy again! Dwayne L. This is a fabulous album, which I have played continously. I heard several songs from All We Need on Sirius XM in my car, and I took note of the songs and artist. This was my first album purchased by Oli Silk, and I was extremely satisfied. The music is upbeat, romantic, haunting…..all of that. I am including more of his works in my collection.
